Can I withdraw from my unit trust?
- You can withdraw all or part of your investment at any time.
- There is no notice period.
- There are no transaction fees and no penalties.
Before you begin, please note that:
- You can check your available funds by logging in to your online account.
- You must check that your account number starts with AGUT or AGLP. You can check this by logging in to your online account.
- We will require proof of your bank details (e.g. bank statement), if not previously provided.
- A withdrawal may trigger a capital gains tax (CGT) event, as units need to be sold.
- A clearance period will apply to units purchased via electronic collection or debit order.

Never used your Allan Gray Online account before?
You will need to activate your online account. Have your ID number and mobile phone ready to complete this step. Once you have activated your online account, you can submit your instruction by following the above steps.
When will I receive my money?
- If your account number starts with AGUT, the money will reflect in your bank account within three business days, provided you submit your instruction before 11:00 for the Allan Gray Money Market Fund, or before 14:00 for any other Allan Gray unit trust.
- If your account number starts with AGLP, your money will reflect in your bank account within five to six business days, provided you submit your instruction before 14:00.
Can I withdraw from my retirement annuity?
- You are allowed to make one withdrawal of at least R2 000 per tax year from the savings component of your account before retirement.
- You can withdraw a higher proportion if your investment is below a specified legislated amount or if you have other accessible components in your investment.
- You can withdraw if you have not been a South African tax resident for an uninterrupted period of at least three years on or after 1 March 2021, or if you have left South Africa at the expiry of a work or visit visa.
- You can withdraw if you have a divorce order.
- You cannot withdraw from the retirement component of your account; it must be preserved until retirement.

When will I receive my money?
- Once we receive your withdrawal instruction and all required documents, we will apply for a tax directive from SARS.
- It may take more than 10 business days to process a withdrawal from a retirement annuity.
If you are 55 years or older, refer to I want to retire from my retirement annuity.
Can I withdraw from my preservation fund?
- You are allowed to make one withdrawal of at least R2 000 per tax year from the savings component of your account before retirement.
- You may also be allowed a once-off partial or full withdrawal from your vested component, depending on the rules of your original retirement fund.
- You cannot withdraw from the retirement component of your account; it must be preserved until retirement.

When will I receive my money?

- It may take more than 10 business days to process a withdrawal from a preservation fund.
Before you begin, please note that:
- You must check that your account number starts with AGEN. You can check this by logging in to your online account.
- You may only make one withdrawal during the restriction period and the amount you may withdraw is limited.
- A withdrawal may trigger a capital gains tax (CGT) event, as units need to be sold.
How can I submit my instruction?
You can complete and sign an Endowment withdrawal instruction and email the form to instructions@allangray.co.za.
When will I receive my money?
- It takes approximately eight business days to process a withdrawal from an endowment.
Before you begin, please note that:
- You must check that your account number starts with AGLA. You can check this by logging in to your online account.
- You may only fully withdraw from the Allan Gray Living Annuity if the combined value across your past and present withdrawals from all your Allan Gray Living Annuity accounts is below R125 000, even if the value of one or more of your individual Allan Gray Living Annuity accounts is below R125 000.
- Once we receive your withdrawal instruction and all required documents, we will apply for a tax directive from SARS. The directive may not be altered, and your withdrawal instruction cannot be cancelled.

When will I receive my money?
- Once we receive your withdrawal instruction and all required documents, we will apply for a tax directive from SARS.
- It takes a minimum of 10 business days to process a withdrawal from a living annuity.
Can I withdraw from my offshore account?
- You can access your money at any time.
- There is no notice period.
- Note that you must withdraw a minimum of US$400 per fund.

When will I receive my money?
- Each offshore unit trust has different trading days.
- When you submit your withdrawal instruction, our offshore team will confirm timelines.
What should I be aware of when withdrawing from my account?
- Each plan comprises multiple underlying policies. You are only entitled to a single withdrawal per policy during the five-year restriction period, and the amount you may withdraw is limited. If the plan is not in a restriction period, you may make unlimited withdrawals.
- There is no notice period.
- You must withdraw a minimum of US$5 000 (or the equivalent in euros or British pounds) or R75 000.
- You can specify the currency of your withdrawal as the fund currency, ZAR, USD, GBP or EUR.

- A withdrawal may trigger a capital gains tax (CGT) event, as units need to be sold. All CGT calculations will be done in US dollars.
How can I submit my instruction?
You can complete and sign an Offshore Endowment withdrawal instruction and email the form to instructions@allangray.co.za.
When will I receive my money?
- Allan Gray will pay the proceeds due to you when it receives the proceeds from the sale of the units of the underlying funds from the investment managers. You will have the choice to either be paid a single payment per currency on receipt of the money from all the investment managers or multiple separate payments as the money is received from each investment manager.
- You will normally receive your withdrawal within nine business days after the trade day, depending on the settlement day for the fund you have chosen to sell units from. It may take another three business days for the proceeds to reflect in your bank account.
Before you begin, please note that:
- You must check that your account number starts with AGRA. You can check this by logging in to your online account.
- You may only retire from age 55 onwards, or if the trustees of the Fund have approved your request for early retirement.
- You can withdraw the balance of your savings component (or a portion of it) in cash, even if you have already taken a withdrawal during the same tax year, or use it to purchase a retirement income product, such as a living annuity or guaranteed life annuity. The full value of your retirement component must be used to purchase an annuity. A higher proportion may be available as cash, but only if your investment is below a specified legislated amount or if you have other accessible components in your investment.
- You must ensure that you understand the tax implications of taking a cash portion at retirement. We will apply for a tax directive from SARS once we receive your instruction. Once you have applied for a tax directive from SARS, it cannot be cancelled.

When will I receive my money?
- Once we receive your retirement instruction and all required documents, we will apply for a tax directive from SARS.
- It takes a minimum of 10 business days to process a retirement from a retirement annuity.
- It will take an additional two business days to process your instruction if you have chosen the Allan Gray Living Annuity as your retirement income product.
Before you begin, please note that:
- You must check that your account number starts with AGPE or AGPR. You can check this by logging in to your online account.
- You may only retire from age 55 onwards, or if the trustees of the Fund have approved your request for early retirement.

- You can expect the money to reflect on your statement in three business days, provided you submit your instruction and the money reflects in our bank account before 14:00.
- For electronic collections, we will collect the money from your bank account one business day after you submit your instruction.
How can I submit my instruction?
You can only add money that comes from the same source as your existing preservation fund. To do so, you will need to follow a Section 14 transfer process.
Before you begin, please:
- Confirm that your account number starts with AGEN.
- Note that you must add at least R1 000. If the investment is in the name of an investor younger than 18 (i.e. a minor), you must add at least R500.
- Note that your additional contribution may trigger a new five-year restriction period or extend your existing restriction period. This happens when your contributions in the current policy year are greater than 120% of the higher of any of the previous two policy years' total contributions.
- Note that money can be paid into our bank account via an electronic funds transfer (EFT), or we can collect the money from your bank account. We do not accept cheque deposits.

You may only add to your living annuity with existing retirement savings. These can be retirement funds transferred from another company or from an Allan Gray retirement fund (accounts starting with AGPR, AGPE, AGRA).

How can I submit my instruction?

How long will it take to process my additional contribution?

If your funds are being transferred from another company to Allan Gray, it will take approximately six to eight weeks to finalise your additional contribution. We will communicate with the transferring company on your behalf.
- If you are retiring from an Allan Gray retirement fund and transferring your benefit to an Allan Gray Living Annuity, it will take up to 12 business days for the transaction to be finalised.

- Note that you must add at least US$5 000 (or the equivalent in euros or British pounds) or R75 000.
- Note that deposits are accepted in rands, British pounds, US dollars or euros. The bank details will only be sent to you once an additional contribution instruction has been submitted online and Allan Gray is satisfied that all the required documentation has been received.
- Note that should you be converting rands to foreign currency, you may be required to apply for tax clearance from SARS. Allan Gray can facilitate the conversion of your rands to foreign currency.
- Note that your additional contribution may trigger a new five-year restriction period or extend your existing restriction period. This happens if, in any one policy year, you invest more than 120% of the higher of either of the previous two years’ contributions.
- Each offshore fund has different trading days which will affect the processing time for your instruction.

- If you are changing your name or surname, we require a signed copy of your South African ID or passport. If you are invested in the Allan Gray Offshore Endowment, we require a colour copy of your South African ID or passport (if no South African ID) with three specimen signatures.

How can I submit my instruction?
- If you would like to change the communication method (post or email) for communications from Allan Gray, please complete the communication details section of the Change in investor details form. If you are invested in the Allan Gray Offshore Endowment, the only communication method is email.
- You can email the form to instructions@allangray.co.za.
Before you begin, please:
- Check that your money with the external company is invested in a pension fund, provident fund or retirement annuity.
- Check that your investment amount is R50 000 or more. If the investment is in the name of an investor younger than 18 (i.e. a minor), check that the investment amount is R20 000 or more.
- Note that your investment with Allan Gray must comply with prescribed legal investment limits.
- Note that some companies charge an exit penalty when you transfer your retirement fund to another company. Please confirm any cost implications before you start the process.
- Note that you will need an investment overview to complete this instruction. This is available from your financial adviser or our Client Service Centre.
How can I submit my instruction?
- Obtain a transfer instruction from the company you will be transferring from.
- Submit a signed letter instructing your current company to transfer your retirement fund to Allan Gray. The letter should include the date, your name, the policy number and name of the transferring fund, and must state that you will be transferring to the Allan Gray Retirement Annuity.
- Complete an Allan Gray Retirement Annuity Application Instruction.
- Send the form(s) and supporting documents listed on the cover page of the form to instructions@allangray.co.za.
When will I see the money on my Allan Gray statement?
- Transfers are an administratively intense process. Each company has different requirements and procedures. The timeframe for a transfer depends largely on the transferring company and in some cases the Registrar of Pension Funds (the Registrar).
- Transfers may take up to six months to complete before the investment will reflect on your statement.
Before you begin, please:
- Check that your money with the external company is invested in a pension fund or provident fund.
- Check that your investment amount is R50 000 or more.
- Note that your investment with Allan Gray must comply with the prescribed legal investment limits.
- Note that some companies charge an exit penalty when you transfer your retirement fund to another company. Please confirm any cost implications before you start the process.

How can I submit my instruction?
- Obtain a transfer instruction from the company you will be transferring from.
- Submit a signed letter instructing your current company to transfer your retirement fund to Allan Gray. The letter should include the date, your name, the policy number and name of the transferring fund, and must state that you will be transferring to the Allan Gray Pension Preservation Fund or the Allan Gray Provident Preservation Fund.
- Complete an Allan Gray Preservation Fund Application Instruction.

When will I see the money on my Allan Gray statement?

- Confirm that you have a pension, provident, preservation or retirement annuity fund which you would like to receive an income from.
- Ensure that you are eligible to retire from the product that you are invested in.
- Ensure that your investment amount is R125 000 or more.
- Note that you will need an investment overview to complete this instruction. This is available from your financial adviser or our Client Service Centre.
How can I submit my instruction?
- Complete a Living Annuity Application Instruction.
- If you are transferring from an external company, please provide a declaration / Recognition of Transfer (ROT) from the external company.
- Provide proof of your banking details as listed in section 5 of the application form.
- Send the above documents to instructions@allangray.co.za.
When will I see the money on my Allan Gray statement?
- We will liaise with the external company to transfer your investment to our platform.
- If the instruction and documents are received before 14:00 on a business day, we will start processing on that business day.
- If your funds are being transferred from another company to Allan Gray, it will take approximately six to eight weeks to finalise your transfer.
Before you begin, please:
- Check that your money with the external financial service provider is invested in a tax-free savings or investment account.
- Check that your investment amount meets our transfer minimums:
- If you do not have an existing tax-free investment with us the minimum is R36 000 or R1 000 if you set up a debit order of R1 000 per month or more.
- If you have an existing Allan Gray Tax-Free Investment the minimum is R1 000.
- If you are investing in the name of an investor younger than 18 (i.e. a minor), these minimums differ.
How can I submit my instruction?
- If you do not have an Allan Gray Tax-Free Investment complete the Transfer request for New Tax-Free Investment form.
- If you have an Allan Gray Tax-Free Investment complete the Transfer request for Existing Tax-Free Investment form.
- Send the form(s) and supporting documents listed on the cover page of the form to instructions@allangray.co.za.
- We will contact you if there are any outstanding requirements, otherwise we will contact the transferring service provider to process the transfer to your Allan Gray tax-free investment.
When will I see the money on my Allan Gray statement?
- The timeframe for a transfer to be completed by the transferring service provider is 10 days from receipt of instruction and all outstanding documents. We will invest your money as soon as we receive the cash from the transferring service provider, together with the transfer certificate.
- Regulation restricts the processing of transfers during the last 10 business days of the tax year. Your transaction will be delayed if you submit a transfer during this freeze period.
You can transfer all or part of your investment to another financial services provider. A minimum of R20 000 must remain in your Allan Gray Tax-Free Investment Account for partial transfers.
How can I complete the process?
- Obtain a transfer instruction from the service provider you will be transferring to.
- After completing the form, send the instruction to the receiving service provider. They will inform you if you need to send the form to us. Otherwise, they will contact us to process the transfer.
